Who says you can't drink Tequila on Thanksgiving? This Margarita-inspired tipple makes a great daytime sipper as you prepare for the day's main event.

Thanksgiving here in the USA is just over a week away and you know what that means: it's time to finalize the cocktail menu! Which is the task assigned to yours truly every year, and one that I take very seriously.

While wine is always the star of Turkey Day dinner, we like to enjoy a cocktail or two throughout the day while we're cooking and hanging out. (And watching the National Dog Show, of course.) But daytime drinks leading up to the main event can't be too boozy or too heavy because a) we don't want to fall asleep at the dinner table and b) we can't be too full for stuffing! So lower in alcohol, fresh, and seasonal are what I aim for, and I never repeat the same Thanksgiving tipple twice.

For this year's cocktail I'm keeping with my apple theme thanks to an absolutely delicious jug of apple cider I picked up at Mercier Orchards. It tastes just like biting into an apple, and offers the exact fresh element I'm looking for. Couple that with a note of ginger and you've got the perfect Fall-flavored, Margarita-inspired Thanksgiving Day concoction! And yes, Tequila is perfectly acceptable on Turkey Day.

Who says you can't drink Tequila on Thanksgiving? This Margarita-inspired tipple makes a great daytime sipper as you prepare for the day's main event.

Yields:

1 Drink

Ingredients:

1 oz Tequila Blanco*

¼ oz Fresh Lime Juice

¼ oz Maple Syrup

1 ¼ oz Apple Cider

1 Dash Angostura Bitters

1 oz Ginger Beer

Garnish: Apple Slice and a Cinnamon Stick

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients except for the Ginger Beer in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until cold. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice and top with Ginger Beer. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and an apple slice.

*Feel free to add more Tequila, but as mentioned, my goal was to create a cocktail lower in alcohol since Thanksgiving is a very looooong day! These ratios are based on 1 oz of booze, though, so keep that in mind if you add more.
