Elevate your basic Vodka Soda with this Blueberry Basil Spritz recipe that’s bright, refreshing and as tasty to drink as it is pretty to look at!

When your friend surprises you with fresh blueberries from his farm, it’s basically a requirement to create a cocktail with some of them!

If you’re a Vodka Soda drinker, this one’s for you – only it has flavor. And I mean no offense to anyone that loves a Vodka Soda, but let’s be honest – that little squeeze of lemon or lime doesn’t exactly constitute flavor. And I should know because I spent many, many years drinking them instead of other cocktails for the sake of saving calories.

This drink takes your Vodka Soda and brightens it up with some citrus and sweetness. I added a little of my Lively Root basil to the mix as well because I love it, and the result is a bright, refreshing, full of flavor cocktail. It’s also one that’s easily turned into a mocktail simply by leaving out the booze and doubling the club soda!

Blueberry Basil Spritz

Elevate your basic Vodka Soda with this Blueberry Basil Spritz recipe that’s bright, refreshing and as tasty to drink as it is pretty to look at!

Yields:

1 Drink

Ingredients:

2 oz Vodka

¾ oz Lemon Juice

½ oz Blueberry Basil Simple Syrup

4-5 Blueberries

2 Basil Leaves

2 oz Club Soda

Garnish: Blueberries and Basil

Instructions:

FOR THE COCKTAIL:

Combine lemon juice, syrup, blueberries and basil to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add Vodka and shake until combined. Double strain into a cocktail glass full of ice and top with club soda. Give a gentle stir and garnish with blueberries and a sprig of fresh basil.

FOR THE SYRUP:

Combine equal parts sugar, water and blueberries to a saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved and the blueberries begin to break down. Reduce heat to low, add basil leaves (I used 8 large leaves for ½ cup of sugar and berries) and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Double strain the syrup, mashing the berries as you strain to squeeze out all of the remaining juice.
