I’ve been back in Atlanta visiting my mom and recently during one of our evening cocktail hours on her patio, we spent some time looking through my cocktail books and picking out new drinks to try. I told her to choose any recipe she wanted me to make for her, and it came as no surprise that she chose one full of orange flavor!
My mom loooooves oranges. She eats some form of orange every, single day and is the sole reason I planted a tangerine tree in my yard. So I had to giggle when I saw the drink she picked because it’s about as orange-y as you can get!
This recipe is from Dale DeGroff’s “The New Craft of the Cocktail,” and was invented by Tony Debok. According to DeGroff, he and a friend were doing a cocktail safari in NYC and stumbled into Daddy-O’s bar in Greenwich Village. Debok was tending bar and in DeGroff’s words, “invented this special cocktail just for us, but then I’ll bet he said that to all the tourists.”
Sweet, bitter, and fresh, this drink encompasses every aspect of an orange, and put a big smile on my mom’s face!
