A gripping poem by Michael Albanese in the wake of the horror that transpired in Uvalde, Texas. Let us always remember their names.

UVALDE

Oh, Horror

empty void, senseless scream

darkest thoughts by night

when evil reigns most free

Oh, Culture

you kill the best of humanity

did you confuse, lost soul,

their sanctity for your sanity?

Oh, Tragedy

today you demand our sorrow

thoughts and prayers, they come and go

in pale hopes of action tomorrow

Oh, Perfect Innocence

I could be your father

your mothers would have traded

that gravest morning for any other

Oh, America’s children

your blood will not be in vain

may your faces haunt those who failed you

until each remember your names
