Description
A versatile syrup you can use in a variety of ways, Strawberry Simple Syrup is a great way to add a touch of summery sweetness to all sorts of eats and drinks.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Wash the strawberries thoroughly.
- Remove the hulls and then slice the berries.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced strawberries and sugar and stir to combine. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15-20 minutes in order for the sugar to draw out the natural juices from the strawberries.
- Add the sugar-strawberry mixture and water to a saucepan. Heat over medium to medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sugar has completely dissolved, reduce heat to medium-low and bring to a gentle simmer. Allow the strawberries to steep in the syrup for about 10 to 15 minutes or until they turn slightly translucent.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the syrup cool slightly.
- Stir in the lemon juice.
- Strain the strawberry syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove strawberry solids and store in an airtight container.
Notes
- If you don’t have time to allow the strawberries to macerate, you can skip this step. Simply combine the sugar, berries, and water together in Step 4 and continue from there.
- You can easily halve or double this recipe, just keep the ingredient proportions the same!
