Now THIS is my kind of coffee!
While perusing Sother Teague’s “I’m Just Here for the Drinks” I stumbled upon this nod to a cappuccino and knew immediately that I had to have it in my life! As Sother says in his book, “There’s something about mixing coffee with alcohol that just seems right.” I agree.
This is one of those dangerously delicious drinks that makes you want to lick the glass and then ask for another. It’s like an Irish Coffee in that way. Only this one is cold. And has Rye. And life is simply better with a bit of Rye.
I also really like the technique of shaking bitters into cream to add a layer of flavor to a drink. Not something I’ve done much before, but something I’ll definitely be looking for opportunities to do more often. And not just for boozy drinks! This is a trick we can all do – drinkers or not – to spice up an everyday coffee or tea, or even to add some extra flavor to whipped cream for your pie.

Rye Cappuccino

Description
Rye Whiskey meets espresso in this delicious Rye Cappuccino coffee cocktail that’s sure to have you licking the glass and then asking for another!
Ingredients
- 2 oz Rye Whiskey
- 1 oz Espresso (cold)
- 1/2 oz Brown Sugar Syrup
- 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
- 3/4 oz Heavy Cream
Instructions
- Combine Rye, brown sugar syrup, and espresso in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake until cold and strain into a cordial glass.
- Combine bitters and cream in a tin without ice and give a good, hard, dry shake to whip it.
- Float the cream on top.
Notes
- To make the syrup, combine 2 parts dark brown sugar to one part water in a small saucepan. Heat on the stove over medium-low heat until the sugar has completely dissolved, stirring occasionally.
