Who’s feeling festive?!

With Christmas just over a week away, I’m feeling all the holiday feels! I'm getting super excited to be with my family and to indulge in all of my favorite Christmas treats, which of course includes cocktails. And bubbly. Lots and lots of bubbly.

You should know that I’m a HUGE lover of sparkling wine. I’d drink Champagne or Champagne drinks every day if I could, and any chance I can add bubbly to cocktails, I take it. So one of the tipples on our drink menu this year is this Spiced Cranberry French 75. The classic French 75 cocktail is an absolute favorite of mine, and replacing the simple syrup with this spiced cranberry syrup gives it a perfect holiday twist. It’s bright and fresh, and the cranberry syrup adds just enough lovely cranberry flavor without overwhelming the sparkling wine. And the best part is that you can use the syrup in a host of other cocktails and mocktails, or even add a spoonful of it to your hot tea!

The countdown to Christmas is on, and this seasonal twist on a classic French 75 recipe is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

Yields:

1 Drink

Ingredients:

FOR THE COCKTAIL:

1 oz Gin

½ oz Fresh Lemon Juice

¾ oz Spiced Cranberry Syrup

3-4 oz Sparkling Wine

Garnish: Cranberries and a Lemon Twist

FOR THE CRANBERRY SYRUP:

2 cups Cranberries

1 ¼ cup (+ a bit more if needed) Water

1 ¼ cup Dark Brown Sugar

1 teaspoon Freshly Grated Orange Zest

2 Cinnamon Sticks

½ teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

¼ teaspoon Ground Ginger

Small Pinch Ground Cloves

Instructions:

FOR THE COCKTAIL:

Combine Gin, lemon juice, and cranberry syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until cold. Strain into a coupe glass and top with sparkling wine. Garnish with cranberries and a lemon twist.

FOR THE CRANBERRY SYRUP:

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. As the cranberries soften, use the back of wooden spoon and press them against the side of the pan to release their juices. Simmer for about 10 minutes, add a touch more water if mixture is too thick, and remove from the heat. Let steep for about 10 more minutes and then strain through a fine mesh sieve. The syrup will be thick, so allow time to strain completely. Let it come to room temperature or place in the fridge to cool off before using in your cocktail.
